one flew over the cuckoo's nest
Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet. Dr Evil claimed that his father invented the question mark. George Costanza claimed to have "artistic integrity". Sheryl Crow claimed we can slow down global warming by whiping with one sheet of toilet paper. And now, Lou Holtz has claimed that Notre Dame is a top ten team with real BCS potential. Holtz doesn't need counseling or anything like that, he needs a whole team of doctors. like at the university level, classes need to be dedicated to studying and analyzing the words that come out of his mouth. Somebody could write a valuable disertation on the outrageous claims of Lou Holtz and their meaning. Let's compile all of his recent statements that deserve a double take (that would include most of them). Please list any outrageous claims worth noting, especially one's by the old raisin behind the ESPN desk.

The picture made me laugh...
On this team, we're all united in a common goal: to keep my job - Lou Holtz
i said this one last week... cal will beat tennessee this year cause of how good they played last year... lou holtz.
Cal may or may not beat Tennessee, but Holtz' reasoning was ludacris. "Cal is more talented." um Lou, see recruiting.

on Alabama vs. Florida State,
Holtz says that new OC "Jumbo Fisher" will make them into one of the best offenses in the country...are you kidding me?

I saw Holtz is sure ND is going to beat USC...not making this up, I promise.
Alex, can you back that up with a link or something? I won't believe it till i see it.
i swear lou holtz said he predicted nd would beat usc. one of my good buddies called me immediately after it happened. he said it was because "notre dame's secondary would really slow down usc's offense." how does this man have a job again?
Kelly, it is from the ESPN video clip entitled "ESPNU championship series: part 6". you can't make stuff like this up, otherwise it wouldn't be "blog worthy".
I am a believer. Saw it, heard it. Still can't believe it.
last year Holtz said that Chuck Amato, Dennis Franchoine, John. L Smith, Lloyd Carr, and Houston Nutt were not on the 'hot seat'. he dismissed all the "negative talk" about their future.
Two of those coaches were later fired, and two more are probably on their way out this year. But at the time, they were probably just speculative rumors not worth talking about. right Lou?

I don't know who this guy is, but I do know of two statements I have heard recently that made me howl with laughter.
1) Jon Kitna boldly predicted the Lions would win 10 games this year.
2) Jon Kitna retracted that statement, saying he had seen the schedule since and knew they would win more than 10 games.
That is just awesome.
