Carry on ole Red, White, and Blue

Let's Celebrate America

The BBC recently conducted a world-wide survey regarding opinions towards U.S. policies. To no one's surprise, France routinely disapproved of U.S. foreign policies. 80% of respondents disapproved with our stance on global warming (France leading the charge), 73% on our Iraq War stance (France leading the charge), and 60% on our Iran nuclear program stance. If France is disapproving, then chances are, we are doing something right. Carry on United States. How easily France forgets what the world would be like apart from the U.S. The U.S. is trying to figure out how to stop Iran while France is passionately saving the world from global warming. Thank you France for your relentless battle against the evil of this world.
"Did someone say Global Warming? We surrender" - France

In other news, the NCAA is tackling all the important issues as usual. In efforts to get South Carolina to remove a confederate flag from a confederate monument and Mississippi to remove the confederate flag from its state flag, they are proposing a ban. It would band super regional and regional baseball tournaments from occuring in states which fly the confederate battle flag. This paragraph is not a statement about the confederate flag, (I, for one, was all in favor of Ole Miss removing them from the stadium), but can't the NCAA find more important things to be concerned with? Gee...I don't know, maybe hammering down on rampant cheating. It will be quite a fun controversy if the NCAA follows through with the ban and either Ole Miss or Miss. State has a great baseball team this year. "Sorry guys, you played great this year....but your going to have to drive to Tulsa this year because you live in Mississippi."

1. Ah France, the country that has won exactly zero wars. I guess they would be experts on military strategy.

2. In all fairness, the Patriots did have one starter in the entire secondary. But Manning still had to make the throws and Addai still had to finish the runs. So let's give credit where credit is due. I think the Colts have gotten pretty lucky this year by not having to play a complete team yet. All that said, if the colts improve their special teams defense in the next two weeks, they'll have finished the bears by halftime.

3. I'm so tired of people comparing Manning to Elway. Elway made it to 2 Super Bowls, before the 2 he won, with ZERO Pro-Bowlers on offense. Meanwhile, Manning has played with Marshall Faulk, Edgerin James, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Jeff Saturday. These are all GREAT players. The comparison is completely bogus. John Elway is probably the greatest QB of all time, and if he had played with the players that Manning, Montana, or Aikman had he'd probably have 5 or 6 rings.

4. Making a big deal about Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy's race only diminishes their accomplishment. It wasn't harder for them to get to the Super Bowl because they were black. By highlighting their race, the media removes the focus from their great abilities as coaches.

I did read today that the NCAA elected not to extend the postseason ban to Mississippi and South Carolina. However, that does not mean they will not revisit the idea. I could care less what the state of Mississippi flag looks like, but does the NCAA realize just a few short years ago the state of Mississippi held a DEMOCRATIC vote to determine what the state flag would be? Two-thirds of voters chose the current flag. So by even considering a ban of the state of Mississippi, the NCAA basically is saying they don't like democracy.

Seriously, if global warming were an invading army with big scary guns, France would be the first to collaborate. As far as social and domestic issues go, it's stunningly ironic that the cradle of libertarianism has a government system that is so oppressive to individual liberty.

- I love what the US ambassador to the UN asked the French ambassador..."Mr. Ambassador, Do you speak German??" The French Ambassador replied "No, i do not". The US ambassador replied..."Your Welcome."

- Kurt, i don't blame you with the comparison of Manning to Elway. I hate the comparison of Manning to Brady. I hate the comparison of Marino to Montana. We need to just affirm a category of "greatness". Comparing football players is not like comparing Basketball players. It's not even a discussion to affirm Jordan as the greatest ever (Bird is 2nd)-- but i don't ever think anyone could resolve a greatest QB. What needs to be said of Manning is simply that he lead his team to a Super Bowl -- and he is one of the 2 best QB's in the game right now...that's it.

There are only three people in the history of France I could ever say I respected:

1. Napolean (at least he fought back)
2. Marie Antoinette (actually Austrian)
3. John Calvin (of course)

It should be noted that the French people roundly hated all three of these leaders at one point or another, which is probably why they are cool with me.

In response to Kurt, Napoleon was a Corsican. As you've already mentioned, Antionette was Austrian, and Calvin made the smart move to Geneva to get out of France.
