Final Four-ology

Most of you by now have filled out your brackets and entered some contest, and some of you have even "gambled", hmmm... - We are not going to host a full-bracket filling contest. Rather, we want to hear your general predictions. Echo these:

Final Four teams: Florida, UCLA, Texas, Ohio State

# of buzzer beaters in first 2 rounds: 6

Most likely #1 seed to go down first: North Carolina

Biggest 1st round upset: Penn over Texas A&M

Cinderella team: Winthrop

Most anticipated Possible Sweet Sixteen Game: UNC v. Texas

Most anticipated Possible Regional Final Game: Kansas v. UCLA

National Champion: Ohio State

...all thoughts are welcome: Most overrated team, most underrated team,

# of hours your going to spend on the couch the next three weeks, proper junk food neccessary for watching games, greatest NCAA tourney memory, worst NCAA tourney memory....ideas on how to best spend time during tournament...contribute anything!

I filled out my bracket prior to reading your blog,

My Final Four teams: UCLA, Maryland, Texas, Ohio State

# of buzzer beaters in first 2 rounds: 5-7 (I have no clue on this one)

Most likely #1 seed to go down first: Although, I would pick NC, I picked Florida

Biggest 1st round upset: Long Beach St. over Tennessee

Cinderella team: Long Beach St. (Yes, crazy I know, but aren't all)

Most anticipated Possible Sweet Sixteen Game: Florida vs. Maryland

Most anticipated Possible Regional Final Game: Kansas vs. UCLA (Agreed)

National Champion: Ohio State (Agreed)

Team that should have been in the tournament: Kansas St. (4th place in Big 12, killed Texas Tech in Big 12 Tournament and beat them in regular season)

Team that shouldn't have been in the tournament: Texas Tech (5th place in Big 12, dominated by KSU in Big 12 tournament and lost to KSU in regular season)

Agree Tech shouldn't be in. Drexel and Syracuse should've made it also...huge snubs there. Arkansas making it was a joke.

Final Four: Florida, Kansas, Georgetown, Texas A&M

Most Overrated Team: Wisconsin

Most Underrated Team: A&M

Upset Specials: Winthrop to Sweet 16; Davidson over Maryland; LB St. over Tennessee

Greatest tourney memories: Brice Drew, Christian Laettner (even though Duke sucks); and Tyus Edney.

National Champ: Florida.

Ohio State can go to hell. Florida's coming out with a deuce.

if any of you guys live near an ESPN Zone, i strongly encourage you to go to one on thursday or friday afternoon for the first eight games of the day. went last year and it was truly the best experience of my life. a huge screen with the best game on it currently. a small screen at your table with whatever game you want to keep up with besides the one on the big screen. and then the other two games that are being played at that time are on 50 inch flat screens on either side of the giant screen. quite an amazing experience that is sure to conjure up some sweet emotion.

Wost team to ever get into the NCAA Tournament: Stanford, 2007. If I were a man, I'd pick every Pac-10 team to lose in the first round. But unfortunately, I'm a man only in body. So I'll sit back and watch four or five Pac-10 teams get drilled in the first round, all the while wishing I had some cajones.

how did Stanford get in with an 18-12 record??? With all these 20-win teams left off, that was absurd -- I do hope Pac-10 comes out embarrassingly.

...lot's of Long Beach over the Vols here...ouch. Though frustratingly, and i don't know why i can't disagree. I have a bad feeling about that game. might be dead on for that matter.

Year by year, I always wonder how in the world we won't see all #1 or #2 seeds in the final four and year by year it happens, i do hope there is no George Mason this year--i hated them

..i think my greatest NCAA memory was sadly Christian Laettner, unbelievable. A close second is Georgia Tech's James Forest turn-around 3 with 0.8....

it is so difficult to repeat in any sport, I just don't see Florida doing it. Only been done by 2 teams, and both times it would have been a huge upset for team not to do it. Florida is good, but not that good.

As far as greatest NCAA moment - I have a lot; but if i see that dang Brice Drew shot one more time, i'm gonna puke.

Final Four teams: Georgetown, Florida, UCLA, Louisville

# of buzzer beaters in first 2 rounds: 6

Most likely #1 seed to go down first: UNC (hate to say it as a Heel fan, but that is one BRUTAL bracket they drew)

Biggest 1st round upset: Holy Cross (and I am a Salukis fan too, but I just got a feeling on that one)

Cinderella team: Creighton (Nevada and Memphis are boht ripe for the picking, Creighton just needs to remember how they were playing a month or two ago)

Most anticipated Possible Sweet Sixteen Game: UNC v. Texas (for sure, but Marquette is in the way first)

Most anticipated Possible Regional Final Game: UNC vs. Georgetown for me

National Champion: Georgetown

i forgot one:

worst conference everyone thinks is good: Pac 10/Big 10(11) tie.

Joel, i hate Big ten too - but i think some credit can be given about that conference in terms of basketball. It does have a recent history of depth and variety (totally unlike their football teams)....wasn't an amazing conference this year - but neither was the ACC....

also...good call on the ESPN zone, that should be my final resting place.

Big XII is best hoops conference, just like it is the best football conference.

A couple thoughts:

1. Biggest surprise team: Albany

They are for real.

2. Final Four: UF, KU, G'TOWN, A&M

That pretty much seals up the KU loss in the 2nd round.

3. Two teams that don't deserve their seed: Memphis & UCLA

I'd be shocked if they both made it to the second weekend.

4. National Champ: Florida

They're starting five is untouchable.

5. Scariest team in UF's path: Oregon

Teams that shoot the three like they do, if they get hot, just destroy brackets. If they made it to the Final Four I wouldn't be surprised.

6. Penultimate Point: Arkansas totally deserved to go. They were on a 5 game win streak until they ran into UF and they've played and beaten several tournament teams. It would have been ridiculous not to take one team from the West.

7. Parting Shot: Look out for MSU in 2008. We're going to be good, which means we'll make the tournament and then Stansbury will choke away a chance to get to the Sweet 16 and I will take years of my life screaming at him through the television.

alex,

the big 10(11) is pretty good at the very top, but that's about it. ohio st. played three out of conference games, lost two on the road to unc and florida, and beat tennessee at home by two. Wisconsin without brian butch is struggling and may not get past unlv/gt. those are the only two really worth talking about. and one good team and a fairly good team hurt by injuries doesn't make a good conference in my mind. i don't think indiana, purdue, or illinois make it out of the first round, and michigan state, whom i like, runs into unc in the second round. we'll let it play out, but i think msu is the only team that plays to its seed this year.

Joel, points well made - i just meant that the Big 10 has done more over past 10 years with more teams than say the ACC......Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio State, Wisonsin have all been final four teams - at least it's not the same two teams evey year - but know this is not a claim for the Big ten as best conference, i emphatically reject that.
