I Love Charles Barkley
Charles Barkley is someone we gladly salute here at Sweet Emotion. He's always making great quotes, discussing running for governor, has a great name (round mound of rebound) or playing up his latest antic. This weekend he was at it again. Charles challenged 67-year old NBA referee Dick Bavetta to a race. Charles has put on the pounds exponentially since his playing days but was still able to grind out a win. Please notice how serious Mr. Bavetta is during the race. He is stretching out his strides and actually DIVES for the finish line. Charles wins, but if I'm 67 and able to dive across the half-court line, I'll be a happy man.

Thankfully the video ended before Barkley and Bavetta kissed each other. Dick Bavetta kissing a wall would creep me out.
On another note, here were two of Barkley's quotes leading up to the race:
"Dick Bavetta and Moses parted the Red Sea together."
"I know I'm a fat, old has-been, but there's no way an old man of 67 can outrun me. It's impossible!"
again, I love Sir Charles...thank you Gray
my favorite part of the story is that Charles put $50,000 on the race....who dares someone to race them, and then says "hey, let's put tens of thousands of dollars on that???".....i guess someone who has lost over a million dollars in gambling.

It's funny that the ref dove to win, but Barkley fell because he's a smartass.
i think it's just a shame at where the NBA all-star weekend has gone - it's demotion to TNT speaks volumes. This race was the pathetic highlight.

Charles Barkley doing any kind of athelitic activity is a highlight to me...

his golf swing makes me think i'm close to qualifying for the U.S. Open
1. Hilarious fun event to watch.
2. Barkley falling is great too.
3. The Brokeback Mountain moment was a rather surreal and not really sought after event. I hear Tim Hardaway wants both of them out of his United States over this.
i also wanted to note that this was quite possibly the highlight of all-star weekend. i was watching today on espn a thing on the evolution of the dunk. the dunk contest used to be so good, and now it's not any better than the homerun derby. i tried to watch some of the actual all-star game, but it was too painful.
they should have just quit the dunk contest after Vince Carter--his performance was the mark of the "last days" of the dunk contest...no one will ever trump what he did

i agree no one will trump what he did. the 360 windmills (spinning reverse of the natural direction), the through the legs off mcgrady's bounce, the elbow dunk, and the two hands from 14 feet were all life-changing and i'm pretty sure they affected my worldview. BUT iguodala's off the back of the backboard dunk was worth suffering through a few years of bad contests for. i think after that one, however, we can close the book entirely on the dunk contest. there's nothing left to do. somebody make me commissioner.
by the way if you've never seen the video of henry bekkering (white boy winning a dunk contest in high school), here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLnjRCJHZo
the last dunk is just unreal, nobody goes off two feet from the foul line.
