Big Night!

An American Icon

Attention to our 5 frequent readers: exams are over, and sweet emotion will be back on schedule.

We wouldn't be doing our audience justice if we didn't remind them of tonights monumental event. Bob Barker will be honored tonight with his final prime time edition of "The Price Is Right." (See previous post for the greatness of the show). Bigger prizes, the chance to win 1 million, and a crowd that will be going absolutely ballistic is goin to make for a memorable night.... tune in at 7:00.

My predictions:
1) Viewers will see all the big games. Plinko, the Golden Road, Triple Play, and Punchboard will all be pulled out.
2)Bob will be in a snappy Tuxedo
3) 1,000 pets will be spayed or neutered tonight
4) Bob is gonna break some rules tonight and give people 2nd and 3rd chances at winning. Heck, he'll probably just declare people winners and give them the prize if even they lose.

I also wanted to change subjects and comment on Dr. Jerry Falwell's death. I didn't always agree with his worldview/theology, and sometimes I disagreed with his public comments. However, the man loved Jesus and his family, and his soul is now made perfect in holiness in heaven. He preached the gospel and many people will praise God for all eternity because God's work in their life through his insrument Jerry Falwell. My point of the blog is this: The response has been scary.

I read a
n article on the Washington Post website regarding Falwell by Dr. Al Mohler. It's an appropriate article about Falwell and his passing away. When the reader scrolls down and reads the comments...it is appalling. I didn't post the comments out of respect, but you have to read it to believe it. Is it not ironic that the people are blasting based on his intolerance? Hatred and intolerance are spewing out of their mouth based on his intolerance...hmmm.

It's another lesson about true intolerance. In our present day, tolerance is something that affirms and accepts everything. Yet, what ends up happening is hatred for those who don't fit their definition of tolerance.

Only Christianity has the true basis for true tolerance. Tolerance is NOT belittling truth by claiming every truth claim is valid, or by never standing on tough truths. No, tolerance is standing by the truth while loving those who do not agree with or even hate it. The Lord Jesus Christ took on flesh and never denied truth, but actually upheld and fulilled the law perfectly (Matt. 5:17). Yet, he suffered and died for people that reviled him and hated him from birth. Only the gospel promotes true tolerance. The gospel works an amazing truth into a person's heart and changes them from the inside out. Because Jesus both upheld truth, and died for his people "while we were yet sinners,"(Rom. 5:8)...now we can uphold the truth, call others to submit to it, butlove and suffer for those who reject the truth. It's true tolerance. The free grace of God promotes truth and tolerance. The two words are incompatible with the our culture's view of tolerance, but are inseparable in the true definition of it.

I'm just relieved that Fruitcup from Phoenix didn't win a third MVP....forget exams being over and stuff, what a relief that was!

Alex,
I know you are going to disagree...but that's one of the beauty's of the co-posting. HERE I GO.

I think Steve Nash is one of the best in the game. One can make a very good argument that he should have won 3 in a row. Dirk is sitting on his couch at home while Nash continues to lead his team.

Yeah, I'm glad they gave it to a seven foot, soft as toilet paper forward who couldn't get his 67 win, number one seeded team out of the first round of the playoffs.

That said, I don't really know who deserved it. Nash has to be considered, but I would have given it to Lebron. Do you know who the second best player on the Cavs is???? Larry Hughes. That's right, Larry Hughes. I know the Eastern Conference sucks, but anyone who can get his team the second seed in the East and to the conference finals while having Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas as his best two teammates, has to be the MVP in my book.

Gray...points well made. I think Steve Nash is completely not in the spirit of "Sweet Emotion". He passes the ball too much. He is too unselfish. It's very "un-NBA" like. Robert Horry has been added to my recent 'favorites' for his so called 'cheap shot' - i applaud the move.

I don't think Dirk is all that....just glad we have an MVP who doesn't spend his summers playing for the "cubs"...

Who wants to be tolerated, really? People want to be loved.

It makes me sick to read all the Falwell stuff. I think the dude was way off his rocker on some things, but he participated in that American tradition of defending biblical Christianity (as he understood it) against perverse theologies that grew in number.

It would have been hilarious if there was some kind of realtime counter for neutered/spayed animals across the United States. Hell, I'd neuter it a second time.

Note: I assume the Cavs would be in the Eastern conference finals since they were up 3-1 on the Nets. After last night's stinkbomb, I'm not so sure.

Dirk certainly didn't deserve MVP as much as Nash.
Nash is best PG since Magic...yes, better than Stockton. Still don't get why you hate him so much Alex. When was the last time you watched him play in a game? He affects the game more than anyone on the court by far. I don't think he deserved either of his last 2 MVPS, but not b/c he's not great, just b/c there were others who deserved it more (Duncan in '05 and Kobe or LeBron in '06). Dirk certainly didn't deserve it this year...he had some of the worst numbers ever for an MVP...not even that good for him given the rest of his career.
And that is another reason why the NBA sucks: they just give the MVP to the best player on the best team, and not to the player who deserves it the most. I would say the MVP this year was Kobe Bryant, because he is the best player in basketball and because he does more for his own individual team than anyone else.

Couldn't agree more with that statement. The fact that Nash was ever considered more of an MVP than Kobe or Lebron is more disgraceful than if Ben Affleck was given an oscar for best actor.

Luke...also, Canadians suck....

what's more appalling about the article is the comments that Christians have left.

Slamming canucks? Tsk tsk alex.

Nash is not your typical NBAer, in that he plays a team game. Maybe it is due to how much I love the college game, but I respect the man for his ability to play the game the right way, and not worrying about getting his 30 points each night or looking for his 360 slam (not that he ever could, but you know many players do just that) so they can get sponsorship deals. Call me a romantic if you must, but I still feel the athletics should come first.

As for Falwell, did not have a clue who he was, but then again christian TV does not get a lot of play up here. *shrugs*

Brian P. --- yeah, nothing personal about the Canadian thing....meant as a joke (i.e. Dumb and Dumber -- "the french are assholes) --- just looking for any reason to hate on Steve Nash...

I enjoyed watching all the Spurs-Suns series. I would remind my wife that they were playing and she would get really excited and we would watch the game together. She doesn't know much about basketball but she loved the was Steve Nash plays... and i agree with her. I think the Spurs are a much better team, but Steve plays with heart. Now, i don't think that he deserved the MVP, but he deserved it more than Dirk. I personally think that the NBA wanted Dirk to get it cause of all the money they make in Europe these days. Just one man's opinion.

lack of charity is always to be scorned among any Christians. but please be reminded that this man called you a "HERETIC" for believing in Calvinism. in my mind, this is the elevation of a theological preference to the level of fact, at best...and appalling theological ignorance at worst. i, for one, rejoice at the man's home going in the same sense that i would pray for my own (and beg all of your readers to do the same) if i ever depart from orthodoxy to the degree that this man had.

(sorry, just finished a devotion on the imprecatory psalms...)

Alex, if I took offense to anything, it would be to the entry based on my Tyson write-up. If that didn't bug me, then I don't think your post here would get me going either. :P
