The "Truth" on ESPN's 25 greatest players list

Dear ESPN,

I don't know what kind of non-sense compells you to do what you do sometimes, but this is just funny, that's what this is - it's funny. The fact that you named Charles Woodson as the 11th greatest player of all time in College Football is damn certain disgrace. I don't want to dispute whether or not this squirrel could defend himself or catch a nut or even that he belonged in a tree. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about it on message boards, you want him on that wall -- you need him on that wall. It doesn't matter to you that he only had 6 interceptions, 11 "amazing catches", and was 70th in the NCAA in punt return average. He did it against Ohio State and on National TV. We use words like "Character" "Leader" "Winner." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defining something. You use them as a punch line and taint them because someone wears that hiddeous Mazon and Blue.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a Network who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very ratings that I provide and then questions the integrity in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "We screwed up, and should not have given him the Heisman" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up an encycolpedia and talk to some intelligent football fans. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think He's entitled to because he played for Michigan!

Somebody at that Chicken-little network better explain how they think he was better than Reggie Bush or Johnnie Rogers or Dick Butkus or Jim Brown. Do your Job. All you people did was weaken an honorable list. You have no idea what it takes to define greatness. You make me sick. I'm thinking about ripping out your eyes and spitting in your skull. Michigan is a disgrace. I'm going back to my base.

Sincerely,
Col. Nathan R. Jessup

Good to have to Colonel make a blog...that really is a joke...what a shame.

I saw Herbstreet today talk about how the Ohio State - Michigan was maybe the greatest rivalry in all of sports. He scoffed at the fact that 76% of people disagreed with him and asked how many of those were from the south. Dang right they were, because we know what good football is. puke!

That is such a disgraceful comment, he destroys his worth with each new commet he spits out. I am becoming more and more a Lee Corso fan as he ages.

The Ohio State / Michigan game is overhyped every year by ABC/ESPN because it is the last shred of dignity the Big Ten has left. It is the only game played the entire year in that conference between two teams that may be decent and it is the only rivalry in the Conference.....as opposed to the SEC - when every saturday is a big game and there are like 10 big rivalry games.

The Ohio State - Michigan game is a good college game, but ESPN needs to stop going there every year as if it is "the place to be"....it disgusts me how they continually deny a media biass towards that.

I'll never forget watching ABC broadcast that 97' Ohio State - Michigan game when Woodson ran back a punt (it was his only punt return for a TD the whole year) and the announcer actually said "Hello Heisman...", it was an obvious campaign.

I am going to guess that Brent Musberger was calling that game. Sounds like something he would say.

If you recall, the next year Champ Bailey at Georgia had better offensive and defensive stats than Woodson but got no hype whatsoever. Woodson winning the Heisman ended whatever prestige that award had left.

I saw that and was sickened...thought about blogging on it myself, so I am glad that Sweet Emotion took care of it.
He is ahead of freaking Reggie Bush! Ahead of John Elway! Ahead of Jim Brown, only the greatest football player ever. I couldn't believe that.

good call Gray...Champ Bailey was a MUCH better all around player and I think that has proven itself as he is probably the best CB in the NFL. But seriously, how can they think that guy was better than Jim Brown or Reggie Bush.

Deion Sandsers BETTER be on that list and higher than Woodson.

Hinds Ward & Champ Bailey are probably two of the most underrated college players of all time. Both played offense, defense, and special teams and both have been great NFL players as well. I really want to meet Champ Bailey's parents just because they named their first two boys Champ and Boss. How awesome is that?
