Championship Week

It's championship week, or rivalry week if you don't have a championship game. In order to help your stress level, I thought i would hand out a few predictions.

1) ACC Championship - Look for VA Tech to win by at least a touchdown. Thank goodness the Matt Ryan Heisman talk has come to an abrupt hault.

2) SEC Championship - I am taking Tennessee in a close one. I think they will jump out early on the Tigers and then hold on in the end. The deflating loss last week combined with coaching questions will have LSU not playing up to par. Tennessee has nothing to lose and will come out of the gates firing. Alex, enjoy Tennessee's return to the BCS.

3) Big 12 Championship - Though I think Oklahoma has more talent across the board, I'm going with Mizzoura. Something didn't look right everytime I looked at Missouri's name. Then I realized there was a #1 beside it. Let's face it, that is just strange. Anyway, Chase Daniel will keep their run alive by edging out the Sooners.

4) USC vs. UCLA - USC. The return of Mr. Booty has given them quite a spark

5) Oregon vs. Oregon St. - Oregon. Nothing more to be said

6) Big 10 Championship - Oh wait, they don't have one. Thank goodness. One less week of the ESPN/Ohio State marriage, and one less week of slow football. I'm secretly hoping to see a West Virginia/Ohio State National Championship just so we can watch the Buckeyes get it handed to them again.

Have a good championship weekend. My Rebels just barely missed a bowl game this year....ahem. College Basketball is cranking into full gear.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Brian, for some strange reason I am very confident in the Vols chances tommorow. I think the vols players just want to win this game so bad that they'll do anything.

...also, I'm torn on the idea of Big 10 championship game..on the one hand it would be fare....but on the other ESPN/ABC would make out to be a "mini-national champtionship"...and I just couldn't handle that.

I hate the Big Ten. I think Appalachian State should get their BCS bid. UGA & LSU should play each other for the championship.

Could LSU really get into the National Title game? This is crazy. I hope it happens. I am sure that if LSU played Georgia in the SEC Championship that Georgia would have won, but here we are and there we might go.

you know you have a bad system if i am actually thinking i have a semi-legitimate claim to playing in the national championship ame. but then again i'm not sure anybody has anything more than a semi-legitimate claim. because nobody has a truly legitamate case. and the team in the top 8 with the worst case is guarunteed a spot. i just hope whoever it is CRUSHES ohio state.

Enough of the "what if's...", Georgia as good as they are, has no shot at the BCS title game. Oklahoma, USC, Va. Tech are all 2 loss teams with conference championships. It is a disgrace to the current disgraceful system to give a team that didn't win their conference a chance to win the national title.

It's a shame Tennessee didn't win to allow the conversation tonight to be more controversial than it will be.

What a pathetic ending to a great season...but in a sense this is the best scenario because it is a nightmare for the BCS. I think 5 teams have legitimate arguments to be in the title game, and Ohio St. should NOT be one:
1. LSU - champs of hardest conf. in country; 2 triple OT losses
2. Georgia - playing better than anyone in SEC and was #4 in BCS
3. USC - playing better than anyone in country (living on the West Coast I see them a lot) and Pac-10 (second best conference) champs.
4. Oklahoma - beat #1 team in country, Big 12 champs, and better than damn Ohio St.
5. Hawaii - I hate to say it, but they are freaking unbeaten...they deserve it more than Ohio St.

Damn Ohio St. and damn the BCS. My gosh we need a playoff. I am so pissed.

Did you just say that the Pac-10 is the second best conference? That is rediculous! They are one of the worst conferences in the country. They only have one team - USC.

LSU shouldn't be in the championship game, they have two losses. Losses are losses no matter how close it is. Sorry Kelly.

Who is better than the Pac 10 other than SEC?
Oregon would be in championship if Dixon didn't get hurt. They were good...and beat USC. Arizona St. was solid this year too. What other conference are you gonna take?

The truth is, when you lose a game, you lose the right to complain about being left out. Mark Richt said this on Sportscenter almost verbatim. So no one can complain. I just think it's REALLY lame that Ohio State backs in to a game that they have no business in because the Big Ten sucks and has no championship game. For what it's worth, I'd rank the teams like this:

1. LSU (no question)
2. UGA (4 wins vs. ranked teams)
3. Virginia Tech
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State

When you look at who these teams beat and who beat them, it's clear that UGA and LSU are the most deserving.

I will go with Kurt on this one. I agree that a loss is a loss is a loss. It doesn't matter how it happened. But we would agree that that a loss to Arkansas is better than a loss to Stanford or Colorado, right? It is a shame that LSU and Georgia did not play this year. Here is what should happen... Big 10 gets a conference championship... have a ranking system for the major Conference champions, something like have now. let the top 6 play it out. Oh yeah, and cut out at least one or all non-conference opponents, cause they don't matter any more. It only matters what you do in your conference. You can possibly get away with playing the same number of games. Or one more. Of course this doesn't include non-BCS conferences. For them we could do an NCAA National Champ and something like the... ok, never mind. Keep it like it is.
