Mark,

Quick...name the best recruit to come to Ole Miss in in the last 25 years?

Willie Green?...no

Wesley Walls?...no

Patrick Willis?...no

Eli Manning?...Yes

Would Eli have come to Ole Miss if Cut wasn't the coach?

Absolutely not.

So to criticize his recruiting is somewhat hypocritical unless you think Manning was a poor signing. At the very least, Cut delayed the program going back into the tank by bringing Manning to Ole Miss.

And yeah, Charles was very "eloquent" when he responded to my post by calling it "dumb"...clearly a master rhetorician.

As far as my recruiting argument goes, I'd just remind you that DiNardo had two number one recruting classes in a row during his stint at LSU...both of those classes had losing records as seniors (1998 & 1999)...

Second question...

Does almost every Ole Miss fan think Cut did a bad job?

Yes

Third question...

Does almost every Ole Miss fan have ridiculous expectations for their program that wouldn't come true, even if Ole Miss annexed State, Southern Miss, and Memphis?

Without a doubt, Yes!

Fourth Question...

Does almost everyone not drinking the Ronzival(sp?)/Kellum Kool-Aid think Ole Miss was ridiculous to fire a coach that had one losing season in five and coached them to 4 bowl victories?

Yes.

The argument is not whether Cutcliffe belonged among the pantheon of great coaches? He clearly does not. But whenever you get rid of a coach, for non-frat party fight related reasons, it should be because you can find someone better. Maybe you think Ogeron is better. If that's the case then all I can say is, I disagree but congrats and best of luck...

...I've seen Ogeron coach in person one time. On that occasion he let a one dimensional team that averaged 9 pts. a game and had the worst offense in their conference roll up 35 against the Rebs. Clearly, the program is in very capable hands.

Kurt's response is fallacious. Yes, I could pick 100 instances of good recruiting classes (like LSU in the late 90's) that didn't pan out. But that doesn't negate the necessity of good recruiting. For example It's about like taking Marcus Colsten of the New Orleans Saints, a last round pick who has been a great pick this year....and saying that because there are late round picks that have turned out to be qulity NFL players, then it must not matter whether you have a first round pick or a seventh round pick. You can't just pick and choose a few things that fit your argument and make a broad sweeping point.

But when you look across the top 25 poll, the top recruiting classes year in year out are reflected in the top 25. So recruiting has to play a part. And yes, Eli Manning was a great recruit, and I'm glad he brought him. And yes some receivers came as well (sign me up to play with him.) However, LOOK AT THE REST of his signeees. I think anyone would tell you about the need to recruit more than a handful of good recruits. (NEED Anyone tell Jerious Norwood that?). For crying out loud the recruiting after Eli was a joke...and the program is showing it. I don't think many people think David Cutcliffe would be taking either of Orgeron's teams to bowl games either.

It's much like Rod Barnes. He took what momentum Rob Evans built and crushed it. Has Ed Orgeron proved himself? Absolutely not, i don't think anyone suggests that. And if next year the Rebs don't start seeing some improvement than some more questions will get asked. Like Mark said, there are plenty of programs that didn't want him as a head coach either...he was definitely available.

So run your stats and winning percentages, but I'm glad we got rid of him when we did to stop the bleeding. State held on to ole Jackie for way too long and he ran them in the tank. We asked the problem to leave...and are now going to find out if O is the answer.

my question is why do you care so much about Ole Miss and its coach. Nobody really asked you what you thought, and honestly you seem to care much more than any of us do. Proving my point that State people care more about the demise of Ole Miss than the success of their own programs. Ole Miss' biggest rival is LSU, not Mississippi State.

Cutcliffe got canned because he refused to make changes to his terrible staff. If he fired a couple of coaches after his 4-7 season, he would have been the coach in 2005.

I have my doubts about Orgeron, but he did something Cutcliffe never did. Upon arriving in Tuscaloosa, he did not automatically bend over and grab his ankles like Cutcliffe always did. Cutcliffe took 3 teams better than our current one to T'town and got obliterated 42-7, 45-7, and 28-7. Orgeron took a team of freshmen and sophomores and had a chance to win the game.

Thanks to DC, we have NINE seniors, of which only seven play. Well done, sir, well done.
